Ok, so the plot may not be fresh or entirely plausible —  the tough as nails teacher and the driven music student — and yes, there are a few clichéd moments, but this movie has super acting — both leads, J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller are excellent — and lovely jazz, so go see it.
