Wadjda

Does the desire of a 10-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia to own and ride a bike cause problems for her family and the powers that be?  You bet.  The young girl who portrays Wadjda is a delight, whether challenging a boy friend to races or trying to circumvent the powerful social and religious forces that make the life of a women in that country so challenging.  This film was directed by a woman in Saudi Arabia, a challenge in itself.  Well-acted and well told.  (Subtitled.)
