The Women’s Balcony

  • Post category:.

The balcony is where women are seated in many orthodox Jewish synagogues. In this film, set in an orthodox community in Israel, one such balcony collapses, resulting in injury and upheaval in the congregation. To the rescue — as it initially appears to many in the congregation — arrives a younger rabbi, full of certainty, and carrying with him a basket of strict interpretations of Jewish law. The story is an interesting look at what happens within a religious community when their leaders challenge their members’ long-standing beliefs and way of life. (Subtitled.)
