Quite the true story: the childhoods of a number of brothers and sister are spent mostly constrained to a bleak apartment on the Lower East Side, with parents on welfare and no friends outside of the apartment. To entertain themselves, the kids watch hundreds and hundreds of videotaped movies and re-enact many of them (word for word!), creating costumes for the occasions. You’ll be impressed by the intelligence and insight possessed by these kids (who the director befriended over a period of time) as well as their story, told with compassion.
