Glenn Close dazzles as the wife of a self-satisfied American professor/writer (well played by Jonathan Pryce) who has just been informed that he will be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The story takes place from the time of the Nobel Committee phone call to the night of awards ceremony in Stockholm, and over that relatively short period we will watch a marriage laid bare. Close is in almost every scene, and I could not turn away from the screen with her on it. Emotionally challenging, poignant, and funny. The amazing acting can make you forget the (the relative few) clichés (such as the character of the aspiring writer son) and somewhat familiar theme.
