The Moneychanger

  • Post category:.

(Seen at TIFF) Director Federico Veiroj’s tale of the rise and fall of, yes, a moneychanger (well played by Daniel Handler), is set in 1970s Uruguay, a country which apparently attracted many people who had big dreams of amassing financial wealth. As you may guess, the love of money doesn’t lead to happiness for our moneychanger — sometimes when deals are too good to be true, they shouldn’t be entered into.  What sets this tale apart is its stylized acting, its very heavy use of irony, and its use of religious symbolism.
