Although the film is riddled with clichés, this based-on-true events story of Srinivasa Ramanujan (played well, but unfortunately stereotypically, by Dev Patel), a brilliant Indian mathematician who didn’t receive much formal education in his younger years, is quite enjoyable. Ramanujan’s ground-breaking work in India came to the attention of famous British mathematicians in the early 20th century, so off he goes to Cambridge to challenge stereotypes and prejudices and become of one mathematics shining stars. (The importance of his work is recognized even today.)
