Celebrity (e.g. Alec Baldwin, Ethan Hawke, Mike Myers) and other talking heads — who talk to us while seated in Elvis Presley’s Rolls-Royce as it travels across the U.S. — and archival footage are combined in what the director hopes is a portrait of the rise and fall of Elvis that mirrors that of the American Dream. I didn’t think the director achieves his goal — too much talking, seemingly forced analogies — but I did learn some things about Elvis that a) I didn’t know and b) were interesting. Decent enough film, but nothing more.
