I watched this excellent 3.5-hour film in the theatre before it started streaming on Netflix (where it can now be found) so that the risk of distraction would be minimized. Director Martin Scorsese gathers his familiar faces — including Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci — to tell the story of a mob hitman Frank Sheeran (DeNiro), who claims to be the person who killed Teamster Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) in 1975. (This story is based on a book by a journalist that interviewed Sheeran, but there are doubts about the veracity of some of Sheeran’s claims.) This is storytelling and moviemaking at its finest, and while there are some slow scenes, for me the time spent with these characters flew by.
