Inspired by the story of a 1920s artist whose husband (played by Eddie Redmayne) underwent the first (or one of the first) male-to-female reassignment surgeries. The early part of the movie follows Redmayne as he becomes, slowly at first, more convinced that he should be a woman, while the latter part takes place post-surgery. Interesting story but I found the film too slow and surprisingly non-dramatic for a good chunk of it.
