One of my favourites of the year, this story is based on the real-life experiences of the talented comedian and actor Kumail Nunjiani and his wife — they co-wrote the script. In other hands, the tale of a one-night stand that becomes much more, a relationship tested by life-threatening illness, could have rung false and saccharine, but Nanjiani and co-star Zoe Kazan, more than ably supported by Holly Hunter and Ray Romano and Anupam Kher as their parents, make this a charming, funny and intelligent film.
