It’s a familiar story — a young lady who is a talented singer (or dancer or musician, etc.) enters a popular talent contest that could lead to stardom and riches — but of interest here only because of the following: Elle Fanning as a high school student — whose family is from Poland, so very much the immigrant family — who lives a very modest and somewhat rural life with her mother on the Isle of Wight, and is very good in this role; an interesting character of a once-great opera singer from somewhere in Eastern Europe who is conscripted to play her uncle and guardian (as she is under 18) for the contest; and a good soundtrack. Decent enjoyment for 90 minutes, but really not much more substantive than that.
