Tom Hanks shines, as usual, in his portrayal of the pilot “Sully” Sullenberger who, in 2009, was forced to land a plane full of passengers on the Hudson River after a flock of geese knocked out the engines.  The key to making this film, directed by Clint Eastwood, work is focussing on the aftermath of the landing, where Sully and his co-pilot (played by Aaron Ekhart) had to defend their actions before a panel of the US National Transportation Safety Board.  Of course, the writers significantly dramatized how much pushback the NTSB gave, but it makes for good drama and an enjoyable time at the movies.
