A weird but interesting tale from (and set in) Kazakhstan during the time of Stalin’s deadly collectivization. A young boy escapes the ravages of the times by escaping to the mountains while only glimpsing the terror taking place in the villages below. The story spans several decades and as the boy grows the biggest challenges he faces are not from the wolves he lives among, but from his childhood neighbours. Not like any other film I’ve seen.
