Roma

From the cinematography to the sound to the acting, this is one excellent film.  In black and white we watch life unfold for an indigenous domestic worker who toils for a middle class family in the 1970s Mexico City neighbourhood of Roma.  Political unrest is the backdrop for director Alfonso Cuaron’s (whose last film was “Gravity” with Sandra Bullock) (semi-)autobiographical tale, sometimes told up close and sometimes from a distance.  It’s a quiet film in which every sound is important; a bleak view of the human race punctuated by moments of hope; and very slow-paced but, if you accept it, engrossing.  First time actress Yalitza Aparicio, the woman at the heart of the story, is very impressive. (Subtitles).  Now on Netflix too.
