It’s got a bleak Canadian setting (mid-20^th century rural Nova Scotia), a true story as inspiration and great acting by Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, playing what you would think would be a very mismatched couple — what more could you want?  Maude Lewis, the famous (self-taught) painter is who Sally Hawkins captures vividly, warts and all; an emotionally troubled,  physically disfigured woman, perpetually hunched, who finds love amidst a life filled with poverty.
