(Now streaming on Netflix)Noah Baumbach wrote and directed this heartbreaking story of the crumbling of what was once a successful marriage. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson deliver the goods as the couple who tear their marriage — and each other — apart without trying or wanting to. This is an emotionally painful journey, partly because the pair have a young child, but one of the things that make this a worthwhile film is that these two characters are quite decent people who still love each other even though they haven’t really listened to each other for years. In this relationship as in many real-life ones, sometimes what seems wonderful in the early stages doesn’t seem so attractive later on. Each of the characters (except for the divorce lawyers, no surprise) are worthy of empathy, and this film is worthy of your time.
