The (fictionalized) story is based on the difficult life of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, and it’s one very impressive film. Paul Dano and John Cusack wonderfully play, respectively, the younger and older Brian Wilson, and Paul Giamatti as Brian’s (the older) guardian/medical caregiver to Brian is downright scary. Covering topics such as music and the music industry during the Beach Boys days (look for the role of the unheralded session musicians who gave the Boys great backing music — and are featured in the recent documentary The Wrecking Crew), mental illness, and love, I highly recommend you take the time to see this film. Delightful and haunting.
