One of the most bizarre films I’ve seen (it’s both a docudrama and a musical), and one sure to split audiences between those that couldn’t stand it and those who praise the creativity/ingenuity of bringing this true story to the big screen. The dialogue is based entirely on interviews with residents of London Road in the British town of Ipswich conducted over several years after a man murdered five women who worked the streets (and London Road, in particular). My admiration for the film’s creativity waned by the half-way mark, however, and a feeling of, “it’s enough already” took hold. Interestingly, this film was adapted from a play; perhaps it works better on the stage.
