A quiet, sweet and poignant film, centred around two NYC 13-year-olds (one an introvert, one an extrovert) whose friendship is strained by the deteriorating relationship between their (well-meaning, for the most part) parents. Great performances by the youngsters and by Greg Kinnear as a dad who must face the fact that his talents may never reach the level of his ambition.  An effective picture of how even devoted parents can lose sight of emotional lives and needs of their children.
