Very slowly paced tale from Japan of two unrelated and unfamiliar to each other families that learn that their 6-year-old sons were mistakenly switched shortly after birth by the hospital staff. Now of course we are left to ponder nature vs. nurture, the figurative thickness of blood, etc. The acting is good, but I thought the film was too long and a bit too obvious (especially regarding the fathers, one an ambitious businessman and the other a not wealthy, simpler man.) However, the critics have been generally very positive about the film, so perhaps I’m being too critical. (Subtitled.)
