Based on actual events, this German film is set in post-war Germany (circa late 1950s to early 60s). Post Nuremberg, Germans did not want to discuss the war. However, a young and idealistic prosecutor — working under the direction of the attorney general and under pressure from a journalist he befriends — pursues Nazi war criminals, ultimately leading to the Frankfurt Auschwitz trial, the largest trial of SS officers ever held. Fascinating story, good acting, some melodrama, but a good film overall. (Subtitles.)
