Juliet, Naked

Even the talented actors — Rose Byrne (always delightful), Chris O’Dowd, and Ethan Hawke — can’t, in my opinion, raise this romantic comedy (based on a book by Nick Hornby) much above the level of cute and somewhat charming.   The story concerns Byrne’s character, who wants out of her long-time relationship with O’Dowd’s primarily due to his obsession with the music and life of an obscure American alt folk/rock musician (played by Hawke), who hasn’t been seen or heard from in many years.  Well, wouldn’t you know it, Byrne and Hawke get together, and O’Dowd is jealous. Some good lines about relationships, some decent laughs, but don’t expect a whole lot more.
