For me, Woody Allen’s films in the last number of years have been much more misses than hits, so my expectations for his newest one (in which he writes/directs but does not star in) weren’t high. Thankfully, I enjoyed this tale of a depressed philosophy professor who only gets his mojo back when his mind turns to carrying out an act he is convinced will make the world a better place. Good performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, even as the characters live in world much more common in fiction than in reality.
