An effective dramatization — with plenty of dramatic license, I’m sure, but with a disturbingly realistic feel — of the tragic terrorist attack on the city of Mumbai in 2008, focussing primarily on the horrors that took place at the luxurious and historic Taj Hotel. Dev Patel is convincing as a waiter who wants to do the right thing, but some of the other characters (the head chef who feels he is responsible for everyone’s safety, as well as some of the guests) seem to be, in part, stock characters, offering up, at times, predictable dialogue. However, prepare to be unnerved and disturbed by what unfolds on the screen.
