Until I read about this movie, I had no idea of the role played by African-American women in NASA’s space program in the early 60s in Virginia. Some of the keenest mathematical minds in the country, and crucial to the success of putting men into space, these women were segregated when it came to office quarters, washrooms, coffee pots, etc., but they rose above the unrelenting indignities thrown their way. This (ultimately) feel-good and well executed movie focus on three of these women as they battle the abomination of institutional racism and fight to be recognized for their humanity, minds and souls, and their importance to the country’s collective mission.
