Happy End

If you want to bring to life on the screen the most dysfunctional family, I’m guessing that directors first think of setting their stories in France. That’s what director Michael Haneke does with this story of a wealthy French family who face threats from within and without.  Isabelle Huppert — always great, in my humble opinion — stars as the family matriarch dealing with a father in declining health, as well as a troubled son, plus a new addition to the family.  You won’t find much happiness in this film, but you will experience some good acting and an interesting story.  (Subtitles.)
