While an interesting peek into an ultra-orthodox Jewish community in London, England, I found this tale — based on a novel — of two women’s (Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams, good as usual) attraction to each other too melodramatic for my taste. Of course, the religious community in which they live (or rather, for Rachel Weisz’s character, lived, as she abandoned religious life — or was pushed out her community — years ago to lead a secular one as an artist in NYC) is hostile to this relationship; you know there will be battles for the integrity of the community, contempt by many , and some understanding. Something a bit less predictable would have helped this story to be more memorable.
