Long-time TV and film actress Mary Kay Place is terrific as a woman with many challenges — drug addict son, ill relative, etc. — who neglects herself to be there for everyone else in her life (including being a volunteer at a soup kitchen in her rural Massachusetts town). Mary Kay, who is on screen for almost every minute of this film, brings her character vividly to life, with sadness, tinged with hope, seen in her eyes and in her body language. This is definitely a slow burn of a story, with almost everyone other than Mary Kay paling in comparison. Recommended (for Mary Kay’s performance).
