Based on the events surrounding the collapse of the BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010, this disaster film checks off the typical scenes in this genre — e.g. one or more heroic souls, frightened spouses and family, twisted steel. However, this one is done with verve, is tense tension and is effective in taking the viewer along for an exciting ride. Mark Wahlberg is quite good as the central character.
