Call Me By Your Name

Lovely to look at — set in an idyllic-looking village in norther Italy, circa early 1980s, in the summer home of an American history professor and his family — and well-acted (the lead, Timothee Chalamet is up for a best actor Oscar as the professor’s 17-year-old son, and Armie Hammer is quite good as a visiting American grad student; the film has several Oscar nominations), this is a coming-of-age and first love story, set in a time when some love was expected not to be acknowledged.  It is a relatively quiet film that could have done with a bit more drama — but still an impressive slice of life.
