Director Julian Schnabel combines facts with fiction to present us with an up-close-and-very personal vision of the world as it may have looked from inside the mind of Vincent Van Gogh. Willem Dafoe, 30 or so years older now than Van Gogh was at the time of his death, gives a powerful performance as the troubled artist. Filming largely with hand-held cameras, almost constantly in motion, adds to the feeling of seeing what someone else is seeing. Prepare yourself for an intense and challenging film experience.
