We’ll never know how well (the now disgraced) Kevin Spacey was in the role of John Paul Getty, at a time the world’s richest man, as he faced his grandson’s kidnapping in Italy by publicly (and privately) refusing to pay the demanded ransom, because as you have likely read, director Ridley Scott replaced, a couple of months or so before the scheduled release date, all of Spacey’s scenes with Christopher Plummer. Plummer mesmerizes, while the supporting cast — Michelle Williams (JP’s ex-daughter-in-law), Mark Wahlberg (one of JP’s fixer)— do a decent job. Not subtle (but some subtitles).
