This story, set in the “near future,” of an astronaut (Brad Pitt, staying very cool, most of the time) sent on a mission to Neptune, believed to be where power surges that threaten the existence of earth are originating from (and which may have something to do with the astronaut’s father (Tommy Lee Jones), who was last heard from in that space neighbourhood 16 years ago). Director (and co-writer) James Gray has crafted a slow-paced and meditative story that doesn’t quite make it to the desired destination of profundity. It looks good on the big screen, but I don’t think it will be remembered for too long.
