Lead actor Taron Egerton (playing Elton John as an adult) does a tremendous job of portraying — impersonation is the not the goal here — the musical legend’s journey through life-threatening addictions, the creation of musical brilliance (with his writing partner Bernie Taupin), and international stardom. This is not a concert film — although there are some great musical scenes — but a glimpse of a life lived, combining both realistic dialogue and scenes of fantasy. Very entertaining.
