Irish actress Jesse Buckley (who I thought was captivating in the 2018 movie Beast) is terrific in this for-the-most-part predictable, but somewhat different, story of a troubled young woman in Glasgow, recently out of prison, whose dream and passion is to become a famous country singer in Nashville. Her dreams are complicated by a few things: two young kids who she has trouble caring for — however they are in good hands with their strict but loving grandmother (played by the always delightful Julie Walters); court-imposed restrictions on her movement; and a lack of money. What she does have is immense talent and stage presence. The musical performances are uplifting and very entertaining, and the acting is uniformly good.
