Who knew that a story set in present times of a Palestinian slacker who works as a gofer on a very popular Palestinian soap opera — which is popular with Israelis, too — set in the run-up to the Six-Day War, would be so enjoyable and have so much charm. Luck has our man suddenly promoted to head writer of the show, who has caught the attention of an Israeli officer at the border crossing our guy has to cross every day to get from his home in Jerusalem to work in Ramallah. The officer’s wife is a huge fan of the soap opera, so of course the officer has some writing advice for our guy, who is also trying to reclaim the attention of an ex-girlfriend. Although politics is always present, the human angle is front and centre, as it should be. (Subtitles.)
