Another impressive documentary that presents us with both some of the worst and the best of humanity. In the ancient and now destroyed city of Aleppo, Syria, a young mother, Waad al-Kateab, has taken to videoing her life — starting in 2012 — in her beloved city as the Syrian government, with a lot of help from Russia, bomb the city and its citizens into pieces. Her video is dedicated to her daughter, Sama, born during the siege. Bombs fall, people die, fear spreads, while Waad battles to keep Sama safe and maintain some degree of normalcy in her marriage to a physician whose life is devoted to his war injured patients and his new family (Waad and her husband married during the filming of this story.) Essential and moving viewing. (Subtitles.)
