Harriet

Cynthia Erivo is excellent as Harriet Tubman, who: escaped the brutality of slavery by risking her life running from the Maryland planation she lived on in the mid-19th century; as a freed woman risked her life to  free dozens of slaves via the Underground Railroad; and, if that wasn’t enough, worked heroically for the Union Army during the Civil War, at one point leading an assault on Confederate troops (which was uncommon for women to do, to say the least).   An amazing legacy that should be more widely known; a good start is this interesting and, dare I say, given the sad subject matter, entertaining film.
