I saw the Broadway play some years back and loved it, but I was disappointed with the film version. Meryl Streep of course chews up the screen as the matriarch of an Oklahoma family that is brought together because of the disappearance of the family patriarch. Lots of friction results, and the results are predictable. If it wasn’t for the work of top notch actors (Julia Roberts, Chris Cooper, Ewan McGregor, Sam Shepard), I wouldn’t be recommending it.
