I’m glad I didn’t closely read the reviews for this film before I saw it — not that that reviews were bad; in fact, they were for the most part praiseworthy – but not knowing what was beyond the next scene increased, in my opinion, the power of this very disturbing story, which was very well-acted by Jake Gyllenhall. As an indictment of our taste for the lurid in news I don’t think you’ll be surprised, but observing Jake as he takes our taste to the extreme, I challenge you to not be a bit shaken. Not for the faint of heart (or those whose film tastes lean to more upbeat portrayals of society).
