The Backward Class

A charming and uplifting documentary highlighting the success of India’s first class of “untouchables” to  take India’s tough university entrance exams.  The school in which this class exists was the brainchild, and funded, almost entirely by one Indian philanthropist.  The film has what you expect — bright and eager students, devoted staff, poor families struggling to provide a better future for their kids, etc. — but it’s better than you would expect from these clichés.
