Matt Damon is, once again (of course), heroic, this time as a science geek (literally) lost (or rather left behind) in space. Will he be rescued? If so, how? You’ll be impressed with what a bit of human ingenuity and some Martian soil can produce. The story is well told and entertaining, the acting is uniformly good (although, disappointingly, Kristen Wiig didn’t have much to do) and the film is visually impressive. (I saw it in 3D, but I don’t think your enjoyment of the film will be diminished if seen the old fashioned 2D way.) My only (and minor) quibble is that it could have been a little bit shorter than its 2+-hour running time.
