When director Terrence Malick is at his best (e.g. the non-dreamy sequences in Tree of Life), he’s very good. However, this film was incomprehensible to me and a disappointment given that it has stars such as Christian Bale (who plays a writer on a quest to find meaning in life), Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman. If you don’t see it because of my comment here, then I’ve saved you two hours of precious time. (No need to thank me.)
