Kirsten Johnson is a documentary cinematographer who has stitched together footage from over the last several decades, ranging from postwar Bosnia and Herzegovina, to the aftermath of African genocide, to boxing in New York City, to scenes of her mother’s last few years fighting the ravages of Alzheimer’s. It took me a bit of time to get used to the rhythm of the scenes as they seemed to fly by without me understanding how they related to each other — or if they were connected at all. But once I felt the rhythm, it all came together. It will leave a mark on your memory.
