I give director (and co-screenwriter) Martin Scorsese a lot of credit for adapting this story of 17^th century Jesuit missionaries (played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who travel to Japan to determine the fate of their mentor, rumoured to have renounced God.  However, I found the imagery anything but subtle and the messages repetitive.  (I didn’t make it to the end of the film, I must admit.) I’ll perhaps try again when it comes to Netflix or some such thing.
