An old-fashioned — in a good way — and charming story, set in England in the early years of WWII, of how the government of the day decided that a “woman’s sensibility” could be added to state sponsored propaganda films in order to raise the morale of its citizens while bombs falling from the sky were a daily occurrence. Fun and entertaining characters — screenwriters (who are the real heroes) and actors, including a very entertaining performance by Bill Nighy as a stereotypical arrogant but clueless, although well-meaning, aging screen star. Witty and touching, without straying too far into melodramatic terrain.
