Chile’s entry for best foreign film at the Oscars stars newcomer Daniela Vega as a transgendered woman (which is what she is in real life) whose relationship with an older man comes to an end with his sudden death. In the aftermath, she must figure out how to honour her love for him in the face of contempt from her lover’s ex-wife and family, and the hostility and discrimination of the police and government authorities. Great performance from Vega, although the film could have used more subtlety. (Subtitles.)
