Audiences and critics have been quite enthusiastic about this rom-com starring an all-Asian cast, set (mainly) among the ultra rich Chinese community in Singapore. Whip-smart NYC professor, Rachel (Constance Wu in a fine performance), she of relatively humble background, travels with good-looking boyfriend, he of a background of extra extreme family wealth (although this fact is unknown to Rachel as the story starts), to Singapore to meet his family (because, of course, he thinks Rachel is the one for him). Along the way you’ll meet a pile of clichés, lots of characters — some very silly, some very conniving, very few realistic — and an ending that likely will come as no surprise. Good production values, though, and some good laughs.
