Wonderful actors John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix and Jake Gyllenhaal team up in this film adaptation of a prize-winning novel of the same name (by Canadian Patrick DeWitt) to put me almost to sleep (although I don’t believe that was the director’s intention). Set in 1850s Oregon, two hitmen are kept busy tracking down a chemist who has developed a sure-fire way to find gold in a river. Much talking ensues while my eyelids feel heavier and heavier and…… Perhaps a bit more drama in this black comedy over its two-hour running time would have helped. You be the judge.
